Why Save for Retirement With BRB?

Local Guidance. Trusted Results.

How It Works

Saving for Retirement in 3 Steps

1

Open Your IRA

Choose Traditional or Roth based on your tax strategy. Open with a $1,000 minimum deposit — no setup or maintenance fees.

2

Contribute on Your Schedule

Contribute up to $7,500 per year ($8,600 if 50+, as of 2026). Make lump-sum deposits or contribute over time.

3

Grow Tax-Advantaged

Earn competitive interest — tax-deferred in a Traditional IRA or tax-free at withdrawal in a Roth.*

Traditional vs. Roth

Which Is Right for You?

There are advantages to both. The biggest difference is when you see the most advantage — a Traditional IRA provides potential tax relief today, while a Roth IRA has the potential for the most tax benefit at the time of retirement.

TAX RELIEF TODAY

Potential Tax Relief Today

A Traditional IRA provides potential tax relief now — contributions may be tax-deductible and earnings grow tax-deferred until you withdraw, usually when you're in a lower tax bracket.

  • No income limits to open
  • No minimum contribution requirement
  • $1,000.00 minimum balance to open
  • Contributions may be tax deductible*
  • Earnings are tax deferred until withdrawal (when usually in lower tax bracket)
  • Withdrawals can begin at age 59½
  • Early withdrawals subject to penalty**
  • Mandatory withdrawals at age 73

Best for: Those who want potential tax relief today and expect a lower tax rate in retirement

TAX BENEFIT LATER

The Most Benefit at Retirement

A Roth IRA has the potential for the most tax benefit at the time of retirement. Contributions are made with after-tax dollars, but earnings are 100% tax free at withdrawal.*

  • Income limits to be eligible to open a Roth IRA***
  • Contributions are NOT tax deductible
  • $1,000.00 minimum balance to open
  • Earnings are 100% tax free at withdrawal*
  • Principal contributions can be withdrawn without penalty*
  • Withdrawals on interest can begin at age 59½
  • Early withdrawals on interest subject to penalty**
  • No mandatory distribution age
  • No age limit on making contributions as long as you have earned income

Best for: Those who want the most tax benefit at retirement and expect a higher tax rate later

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TRADITIONAL AND ROTH IRA?

There are advantages to both. One of the biggest differences is when you see the most advantage: a Traditional IRA provides potential tax relief today, while a Roth IRA has the potential for the most tax benefit at the time of retirement.

HOW MUCH CAN I CONTRIBUTE?

Annual contribution limits apply — $7,500 as of 2026. An additional $1,100.00 'catch-up' contribution is allowed for ages 50+, for a total of $8,600.00. Limits apply across all your IRAs combined. See the IRS for current limits.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM DEPOSIT TO OPEN AN IRA?

A $1,000.00 minimum deposit is required to open an IRA (Traditional or Roth). There are no setup fees and no monthly or annual maintenance fees.

WHEN CAN I WITHDRAW FROM MY IRA?

Traditional IRA withdrawals can begin at age 59½, with early withdrawals subject to penalty** and mandatory withdrawals at age 73. With a Roth IRA, principal contributions can be withdrawn without penalty*, and withdrawals on interest can begin at age 59½.

ARE THERE INCOME LIMITS?

There are no income limits to open a Traditional IRA, but there are income considerations for deductibility. A Roth IRA has income limits to be eligible to open.*** For the most current limits, see the IRS website. Consult a tax advisor.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE EARNED INCOME TO CONTRIBUTE TO AN IRA?

Yes, the IRS requires individuals to have taxable earned income (such as wages, salaries, tips, or self-employment earnings) to contribute to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). You cannot fund an IRA using only unearned income like investment dividends, interest, or social security benefits.

WHAT IS A SELF-DIRECTED IRA?

If you're considering a Self-Directed IRA, speak with a representative of BRB Trust to review your strategy, goals, and approach.

ARE IRA DEPOSITS FDIC INSURED?

Yes. IRA deposits held at Blue Ridge Bank are FDIC insured up to $250,000 per ownership category.
